Preparation and interview tips

Registering at PA Online is your first step for finding a nice new challenge. However, you will have to 'sell' your skills yourself during the interview with your potential (next) employer.

In order to help you a little, you will find a number of interview tips below. Some seem like an open door, but... due to nerves sometimes things do go wrong however.

Make sure YOU do not make that mistake!

Read the tips below, please, and practice! You will enhance your chances.

Good luck!

Possibly you are a little nervous during the interview. Remember that there is a chance that the interviewer is a little nervous as well.

At any rate make sure that you:

  1. Look very well taken care of, neat and loyal.

  2. Have you got long hair? Wear it up!!! You will look neat and business like and it "gives weight".

  3. Shake hands when you introduce yourself as well as at the end of the meeting.

  4. Address the interviewer with Mr./Ms. + last name. Not by the first name, please, unless this is specifically requested!

  5. You áre motivated and answer in a motivated way.

  6. Every organization is different. It is advisable to provide yourself with as much information as you can find on the organization. You will find a lot of information on the internet as well as in annual reports and financial journalism. If anything, you at least show your interest!

  7. Is there anything you would rather not have discussed during the interview? Prepare yourself:

    • To contemplate whý this is an issue for you.

    • Was this issue due to your own doing, or (really) not? Be honest with yourself!

    • How can you enter this conversation well prepared and 'look the subject in the eye'?

    • Which action can you and will you undertake on the matter?

  8. Always speak highly of current and former employers. You are looking for a new challenge and a next step on your personal ladder.

Prepare the following:

  1. The 5 biggest/most important achievements in your current job and/or association assistance.

  2. The 5 biggest/most important achievements in your total career, again including assisting in the work at an association that you are a member of.

  3. Your strong points.

  4. Your learning points.

  5. The reason why you want to work particularly at that particular employer. Why do you want to leave your current employer?

  6. Bring a copy of your CV and thus the information of the company concerned. (Show that you are prepared.)

Questions you may want to ask:

  1. How does the manager prefer the work process? Is he/she very independent?  Does he/she lean heavily on the Secretary?

  2. Does he/she have a sense of humor? How is the working atmosphere in general?

  3. Which time scheme for the whole selection process is provisioned by the potential employer?  When can we receive an answer (to PA Online)? Within 2 weeks?

At the end of the interview:

  1. Thank the interviewer for his/her time. If applicable, you may want to tell the interviewer that you found it an enjoyable conversation.

  2. Shake hands with the interviewer and leave "elegantly".

Never ask what your chances are... It implies that you are not sure (enough) of yourself.
